Shiva’s tandav frozen in Dohar frame

and now, we have a music video which focusses on lord shiva in an inebriated state. bengal’s popular rock group dohar chose this unusual theme for their first music video. “shiva’s tandav is the focus one of our songs. this is basically a devotional folk song, ganjar chirol chirol pa. it describes shiva’s dance when he is aroused into a frenzy. in fact, this has made the number extremely catchy, � said joy, one of the band members. the other band members too are extremely pleased with the script and manner in which the video has been executed. partha pratim rudra’s direction has ensured that the video has the makings of a hit number in kolkata. there were days of hectic search for an ideal location, and they finally settled upon the interiors of mukundapur. “it was fun shooting for the album,� recalled band member kalika, “by the time the cameras got rolling, we had quite a large crowd waiting g outside eager to witness how a video shooting takes place.� returning to kolkata for the remaining part of the shoot, they faced a similar crowd at the busy phool bagan intersection. another success story in the making, perhaps? however, there have been ptifalls. the video was ready by mid-february, but the band haven’t been able to release it yet. the reason is the bandh on april 16 which paralysed city life completely. it was the day of bengali new year celebrations organised by the russian consulate, where dohar had planned to release their music video. but the programme was called off, and the group had to then leave for mumbai on april 17 where they performed at the tejpal auditorium. they returned on april 21 and now hope to release the video on april 27, at gorky sadan. this programme too is being organised by the russian consulate. this time round, the band members are hopeful of getting off to a more colourful start. so when will the song go on air? “let’s get over with the release of the album first. then we shall think about the video,� said joy, keeping his fingers crossed. well, for lovers of bangla bands here in the city, here’s hoping that they all keep praying for dohar’s success.
